Brilliant Labs, an open-source AI hardware company, has announced a new product called Halo, which it is marketing as the world's thinnest AI-powered smart glasses.
Here are some of the key features and specifications of the Halo smart glasses:
* Design and Weight: The glasses are designed to look and feel like a regular pair of glasses, weighing just over 40 grams. They come with a full-color micro-OLED heads-up display that projects a retro arcade-style UI into the wearer's peripheral vision.
* AI Assistant: The core of the device is an open-source AI assistant named Noa. Noa is designed for real-time, conversational interaction. It can see and hear what's happening around you, and a feature called "Narrative" allows it to build a private knowledge base to remember conversations and objects.
* Vibe Mode: This feature allows users to create custom AI applications using natural language voice commands.
* Hardware: The glasses are powered by an Alif B1 chip with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) for on-device AI. They also include a low-power optical sensor, dual microphones, bone conduction speakers, and a 6-axis IMU for motion sensing.
* Battery: Brilliant Labs claims a battery life of up to 14 hours on a single charge.
* Privacy: The company emphasizes a privacy-first approach, stating that Noa converts inputs into secure, irreversible mathematical representations and that no rich media is stored or sent to third parties.
* Price and Availability: The Halo smart glasses are available for pre-order for $299 in matte black, with global shipping expected to begin in late November. Prescription lenses are also available through a partnership with SmartBuyGlasses.
